Duke Electric Vehicles (DEV)
Project type
Global EV Competition
Role
Structures / Mechanical Team
Duke Electric Vehicles (DEV) is a student-led engineering team at Duke University dedicated to designing and building ultra-efficient electric vehicles. We combine innovation, sustainability, and hands-on experience to push the limits of energy efficiency—and redefine what’s possible on the road.
DEV's designs have repeatedly established world records for the Most Efficient Electric Vehicle in the Battery Powered Prototype Division. This year marks just the 2nd year that DEV will be competing in the Urban Concept Division, and we're still chasing that record! This academic year I work for DEV's Mechanical/Structures Team, and after many iterations and drag computational tests, have just completed the design of the outer shell.
So what next? Manufacturing! We are currently beginning fiberglass molds for the carbon-fiber resin infusion process. In the meantime, I am also custom designing locking and opening mechanisms for shell doors and compartments. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress!
