Duke Electric Vehicles (DEV) is a student-led engineering team at Duke University dedicated to designing and building ultra-efficient electric vehicles. We combine innovation, sustainability, and hands-on experience to push the limits of energy efficiency—and redefine what’s possible on the road.
This academic year I worked for DEV's Mechanical/Structures Team, to design and fabricate the car's carbon-fiber aerodynamic upper exterior shell for efficiency. Also was responsible for fabrication of structural chassis elements and interfacing with those pieces and the bulkhead. I designed and implemented the vehicle exterior architecture and door opening + locking mechanisms as well.
The team successfully built, tested and driven this year's iteration and traveled to the Shell Eco-Marathon in Indianapolis. The car successfully passed technical inspection, which is an in-depth verification of system functionality and driver safety. The entire vehicle was constructed and designed from the ground up during this academic semester, and marks the very first time the Duke University has successfully constructed a functional Urban Concept vehicle and passed technical inspection.
